2023 Colors of the Year
Predictions for 2023’s color palette are in, and the results are both nature inspired and vintage adjacent.
HGTV’s Collection of the Year, The Vintage Homestead, is described as a revival of “design elements from the past with mixed patterns, classic shapes and vintage décor to rediscover the meaning of home.” With colors like Poetry Plum and Darkroom (HGTV’s Official Color of the Year), moody rooms are in the forecast.
Terra, Sherwin-Williams’ Collection, is “inspired by the natural interweaving of ourselves and our spaces.” It is a culmination of 40 colors group into four palettes: Biome, Lore, Nexus and Origin – each with their own color story. For example, Biome is an outdoorsy collection which includes “delicate mushroom taupe, lichen gray, rich earth tones, and the colors of our sky’s cloud-studded canopy.” Lore, on the other hand, is more bold with a rainbow of jeweled tones.
Valspar’s compilation of colors are considered “beautiful, livable, ready-to-go shares that restore and rejuvenate any space. These “trend-worthy and forward thinking” colors include Ivory Brown and Villa Grey.
So what do all of these have in common? Green! HGTV’s Pewter Green is a mossy hue while Glidden’s Vining Ivy leans more teal, but it seems green is here to stay… at least for another year. The only outlier at the moment is Pantone’s anticipated selection – Digital Lavender – which is in the same color family as their 2022 Very Peri purple. This light purple is an option for those looking for something a little more playful.
